SINP Announces Closure of 5 Categories, Issues Future Pathway Clarifications For Eligible Applicants

September 1, 2024

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) has announced that it has closed five categories. This news has spread confusion and panic among those who were planning to apply for work permits in these categories.

According to the SINP authorities, the categories that are closed from August 30, 2024, are:

Healthcare Subcategory

Hospitality Sector Project

Long Haul Truck Driver Project

Hard To Fill Skills Pilot

Semi-skilled agricultural worker with an existing work permit.

Those eligible to apply in the healthcare subcategory can now apply through the healthcare talent pathway.

Eligible applicants in the healthcare sector project can apply through the skilled worker category with the existing sub-permit category.

Those eligible for a work permit in the long-haul truck driver project category can now apply through the skilled worker category, which has an existing work permit subcategory.

With hard-to-fill skills pilot permanently closed, eligible applicants are allowed to apply through the existing work permit category or other alternative pathways.

Eligible applicants for the semi-skilled agricultural worker category with an existing work permit can apply through the agriculture talent pathway.

Saskatchewan’s economy is among the fastest-growing in Canada, and to maintain this momentum, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) offers an Occupation In-Demand stream. This stream is tailored to address the province’s specific labor market needs by nominating immigrants with work experience in occupations in demand in 2024.

The Occupation In-Demand stream is part of SINP’s International Skilled Worker category. Skilled immigrants with experience in one of Saskatchewan’s in-demand occupations can qualify by scoring well on the SINP Points Assessment Grid. Eligible candidates can then submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be considered for this stream.
