Immigration streams

Aspiring immigrants can choose from five immigration streams as per their situation. These are:

  • Alberta Express Entry Stream – The EE stream is suitable for immigrants working in an eligible occupation and has a minimum of 300 points CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System).
  • Alberta Opportunity Stream – The stream allows candidates in Alberta who are presently working in any eligible occupation to apply for permanent residency.
  • International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream – Suitable for graduate foreign nationals with a background of education in Alberta from a designated institution and willing to start a business in Alberta
  • Foreign graduate Start-up Visa – The stream is for foreign graduates who wish to start an enterprise in Alberta
  • Self-employed farmer stream – The stream facilitates foreign nationals who want to start a farming business in Alberta.

Alberta Express Entry Streams Express Entry system

The federal government of Canada uses the Express Entry system for three major immigration pathways:

  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Worker Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program

Provincial Nomination Programs like Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program use the EE system. The following are eligibility requirements:

  • A minimum of 300 points score of Comprehensive Ranking System
  • Language ability with CLB 7 for Federal Skilled Worker Class and CLB 4 for Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • A minimum of one-year work experience for FSWP and CEC and two years for FSTP

The EE stream considers active profiles in Express Entry for selection if the candidate exhibits strong ties with Alberta besides the ability to boost the diversity and economic development of the province. The nomination for the stream of Express Entry is a guarantee of Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the subsequent draw because the provincial nomination will directly add a whopping 600 points to the CRS score.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

The stream focuses on foreign nationals presently living with a valid full-time employment offer from an Alberta employer for a job in Alberta. The following are minimum requirements for the Alberta Opportunity Stream:

  • A valid work permit
  • Working in an eligible occupation in Alberta relevant to the work experience.
  • A minimum of 24 months of work experience or 12 months within the last 18 months
  • A minimum education level up to a high-school degree
  • Having at least CLB 4 or CLB 5 language proficiency as per the requirement of occupation

International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream

Foreign nationals who graduate from a designated institute in Alberta can benefit from the stream to start and run a business in Alberta. The stream leverages a system of Expression of Interest and ranks the candidates as per their scores. The applicants need to submit a Business Application upon receiving a provincial nomination. The nomination also entitles the candidate to apply for permanent residence.

Foreign Graduate Start-up Visa

The Foreign Graduate Start-up Visa is suitable for recent graduates with post-secondary education qualifications from an institute outside Canada. The applicants must be planning to start a business in Alberta and meet the minimum eligibility requirements to their profiles on the online portal of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program.

Self-employed Farmer Stream

Farm operators and farm owners can leverage the Self-employed Farmer Stream to settle in Alberta by owning and operating a farm in Alberta. The applicant must have a minimum personal net worth of $ 500,000 and the ability to invest $ 500,000 with farm management experience. One must consult Alberta Agriculture and Forestry and ANIP because these two agencies jointly manage the Self-employed Farmer Stream.
