Student Direct Stream (SDS)

Student Direct Stream (SDS)

Student Direct Stream (SDS)

The student Direct Visa (SDS) aims at speeding up the process of applying for a Study Permit for applicants from certain countries. The eligible applicants from the partner countries can fast-track their study permit applications to expedite their Canadian education journey. Any professional immigration consultant can help you discover several options to study, work, and settle in Canada.

The program is presently applicable to students from fourteen countries that contribute significantly to the entire gamut of international students pursuing Canadian education. Contrary to a regular study permit, which takes months for approval, you will get your Student Permit in just 20 calendar days through the SDS.

The Student Direct Steam replaces the earlier Student Partners Program to help students from select countries significant to Canada’s cultural, economic, and social development.

The program focuses on:

  • India
  • China
  • Pakistan
  • Philippines
  • Peru
  • Vietnam
  • Senegal
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Costa Rica
  • Peru, Brazil Antigua and Barbuda,
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Morocco
  • Colombia
  • Antigua and Barbuda

There are a few more requirements to become eligible to apply for a study permit through the Student Direct Stream.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants for Student Direct Stream must demonstrate additional eligibility criteria including language proficiency for pursuing education in Canada. The applicant must be living in one of the fourteen participating countries in the Student Direct Stream program. Students from other countries cannot apply through this stream. They will have to use the regular Study Permit pathway.

The applicants for the Student Direct Stream need to have the following:

  • Valid passport
  • Photo ID proof
  • Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution in Canada
  • Proof of payment of the tuition fees for the first year of the study program
  • Copy of the GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate)
  • Transcript of the post-secondary school certificate if it is in a language other than French or English
  • Language proficiency test results in English and French language as applicable (Scores of six or more for writing, listening, and reading, and speaking)
  • Security check
  • Medical examination
  • Police verification certificate
  • A brief about the Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)

The Student Direct Stream requires an applicant to invest $ 10,000 into a Canadian investment account. These funds will be available to the applicant when starting their study program in Canada. The students will receive $ 2,000 on arrival in Canada to cover their initial expenses. They will receive the remaining amount in installments every two months for the remaining period.

Students need to choose a bank for opening an investment account. Several financial institutions offer attractive returns on this investment, besides a Guaranteed Investment Certificate to facilitate the application through the Student Direct Stream.

Using the Student Direct Stream (SDS)

Candidates can apply for a study permit by availing the benefits of the Student Direct Stream if they meet all eligibility requirements of the program. You must apply for the SDS via the online method. The Student Direct Stream does not accept applications through any other medium. You will need to pay the necessary application and biometric fees while applying.

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will review applications that are complete in all respects immediately after the receipt. Aspiring candidates will receive a Point of Entry letter from the IRCC after the approval of the application. You will be submitting this letter to the visa officer after arriving at the Port of Entry in Canada.
