Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) facilitates citizens from visa-exempt countries to enter and explore Canada with no hassles. The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) enables the screening of individuals from visa-exempt countries for inadmissibility. Get in touch with an established immigration consultant for any assistance to apply for an eTA.

What should you know about an eTA?

The screening for inadmissibility was only possible at the Port of Entry before the introduction of Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). One can ensure stress-free traveling with an eTA pre-approval system to enter Canada.

The ideal time to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is before booking your flight ticket to Canada. The approval can take a minimum of some minutes to several days, as per the applicant’s record. Most applicants receive the eTA approval through email within a few minutes. There may be a delay if the authorities ask you to submit documents similar to the requirements of Temporary Resident Visas.

Irrespective of their nationalities, individuals arriving in Canada by air from the following TRV-exempt countries require Electronic Travel Authorization eTA to enter Canada for a temporary visit:

  • Andorra
  • Anguilla
  • Australia

Applying for Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

All foreign nationals must get an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before boarding a flight to Canada from the visa-exempt countries. Citizens of the US do not need an eTA and can enter Canada by providing travel documents. However, holders of the US Green Card should obtain an eTA.

Follow these simple steps to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA):

  1. Keep your passport handy
  2. Access the online form by visiting the relevant site.
  3. Keep all information ready to fill online as you cannot save the form
  4. Use appropriate payment method to pay the application fee
  5. Receive a mail about the application

Important things to remember

Make sure to act fast while applying because you will get a limited time to complete the application process. You may extend the time if there is a warning about session timeout. You may receive instructions by mail within 72 hours for submitting some documents if necessary.

Application for an eTA for every person is to be submitted individually. You will submit two separate applications even if you and your spouse are traveling together. Approvals are sent only through email. Therefore, it is necessary to check the inbox from time to time.

You will find an eTA number in the email approval letter of your eTA application. The number is vital for checking the online status of your Electronic Travel Authorization in the future. Ensure that the passport number appearing on your eTA matches your actual passport number. You will have to apply again if there is any mismatch. You will not be able to check in to board the flight if the passport number on the eTA is not matching because there is a link to your passport with the eTA.

The online process of the eTA application is simple provided you have all the necessary information. You may approach an experienced immigration consultant to understand different options to pursue your Canada dream. ASI Immigration is your trusted resource for all types of immigration solutions.
