Quebec Immigration Draw Sees 1,490 Invitations Issued in Latest Round

August 13, 2024

Quebec’s immigration authorities have issued 1,490 invitations in a recent selection round through the Arrima Expression of Interest system. The draw, conducted on August 1, focused on two distinct groups of candidates, with data extracted as of July 29.

The first group targeted candidates who demonstrated a high proficiency in French, requiring at least a level 7 according to Quebec’s standards. These candidates also needed a minimum score of 580 on the Quebec Expression of Interest points system.

The second group also required a French proficiency level of 7 but focused on applicants with job offers outside the Montreal metropolitan area. Unlike the first group, no minimum points were required for these candidates.

The Quebec Expression of Interest system operates through the Arrima portal. Prospective immigrants submit their profiles online, which are then placed into a selection pool and ranked according to a points system.

These profiles remain valid for 12 months. Candidates with the highest scores are periodically invited to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

Upon receiving an invitation, candidates have 60 days to submit a complete application. Those who secure a CSQ can proceed to apply for permanent residence with the federal government.

The Quebec Expression of Interest points system evaluates profiles based on human capital and labor market criteria, including language proficiency, work experience, education, and job offers within or outside Greater Montreal.

The system allows candidates to earn up to 1,320 points, including those awarded to their spouse or common-law partner. Profiles with high-demand occupations and specific areas of training in Quebec are given special consideration.

This latest draw reflects Quebec’s ongoing efforts to attract skilled workers to the province, particularly those who meet its specific labor market needs.
