Ontario Immigration Draw Issues 1,666 Invitations to Masters and PhD Graduates

July 12, 2024

Ontario recently conducted two Expression of Interest draws on July 9, 2024, under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), issuing 1,666 invitations for Canadian immigration. The draws targeted the Master’s Graduate and PhD Graduate streams.

In the Master’s Graduate stream draw, 1,556 candidates received invitations.

To qualify, candidates needed a score of 54 or higher and must have submitted their profiles within the last 12 months. The PhD Graduate stream draw issued 110 invitations to candidates with a minimum score of 50, also requiring profile submission within the past year.

The Ontario Expression of Interest Ranking System evaluates candidates based on several attributes, including their education level and field, proficiency in English or French, intention to settle outside the Greater Toronto Area, skill and work experience level, earnings history, and the labor market needs in Ontario.

The Master’s Graduate Stream offers international students with a master’s degree in Ontario a pathway to permanent residence without requiring a job offer.

Eligible candidates must have graduated from a full-time master’s program at an eligible Ontario institution, achieved a minimum language proficiency level of CLB/NCLC 7 in English or French, resided legally in Ontario for at least one year in the past two years, and have sufficient settlement funds.

Candidates must intend to live and work in Ontario and have legal status in Ontario or abroad. Applications must be submitted within two years of completing the degree requirements.

The PhD Graduate Stream provides a similar opportunity for international students who hold a PhD degree from an eligible Ontario institution.

Candidates must have completed at least two years of full-time study, legally resided in Ontario for at least one year in the past two years, have sufficient settlement funds, and intend to live and work in Ontario. Applications must be submitted within two years of completing the PhD degree requirements.

These targeted draws aim to address specific labor shortages and foster economic development in Ontario, offering skilled graduates a chance to contribute to the province’s growth.
