Canada has issued 400 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) in a recent Express Entry draw. The draw, held on October 22, required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 539 points. This score is the same as the previous CEC draw on October 9, which issued 500 ITAs.
Before this draw, a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw took place on October 21. That draw issued 648 ITAs, with candidates needing a higher minimum CRS score of 791.
Canada has conducted several draws this year under various categories. These include nine all-program draws, nine targeting French speakers, and draws focusing on specific sectors such as transport, agriculture, healthcare, STEM, and skilled trades. The country has also held ten PNP draws and eight CEC draws in 2024.
In 2023, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 110,266 ITAs, significantly higher than the 45,115 ITAs granted in 2022.
2021 saw 114,431 ITAs issued, primarily to CEC and PNP candidates. This broke the previous record of 107,350 ITAs set in 2020.
Canada continues to maintain high immigration targets. For 2023, the target was set at 465,000 new permanent residents. In 2024, this target is expected to increase to 485,000.
The tie-breaking rule for the latest draw was applied to candidates with the minimum CRS score who submitted their profiles before October 19, 2024. This was the 42nd round of invitations in 2024 and the 320th overall.
Candidates who receive an ITA have 60 days to submit their permanent residence applications. These are typically processed within six months. Employers are encouraged to explore Labor Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) or provincial nominations to support the long-term retention of their employees.
