In November 2024, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is set to distribute a range of crucial benefits to support Canadian families, seniors, and veterans. These programs, including the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB), and Alberta Child and Family Benefit (ACFB), aim to ease financial pressures and support economic stability for low- to moderate-income households.
The Canada Child Benefit (CCB), designed to assist families with children under 18, is scheduled for distribution on November 20. Eligibility for this tax-free benefit depends on household income and family size, with qualifying applicants responsible for the primary care of the child and holding Canadian residency for tax purposes.
Shared custody arrangements require an additional assessment to determine benefit distribution. The CCB does not apply to foster children receiving Children’s Special Allowances, though certain kinship caregivers may still qualify.
Alberta families will receive the Alberta Child and Family Benefit on November 27. This provincial benefit, designed to supplement the CCB, provides up to $1,469 annually for the first child and scaled support for additional children. The ACFB, fully funded by Alberta’s government, directly aids families with children under 18 in meeting essential needs.
The Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) will be released on November 8. It provides relief for Ontario residents facing high energy and property taxes. The OTB includes three credits: the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Northern Ontario Energy Credit, and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit.
Payments are adjusted based on income and eligibility criteria. Northern Ontario residents who have elevated energy costs qualify for additional support.
Seniors and retirees receiving the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) will receive payments on November 27. CPP applicants must be over 60 and have made at least one valid contribution.
Veterans Affairs Canada will issue disability support payments on November 28 to veterans affected by service-related conditions, ensuring a better quality of life for those impacted.
These CRA-managed benefits support many Canadians, enhancing their financial security and quality of life. Families and individuals can effectively access these essential resources by understanding the eligibility criteria and payment schedules.
