Canada Issues 3,750 ITAs in New Express Entry Draw for Healthcare

July 14, 2024

On July 5, Canada conducted a new Express Entry draw, issuing 3,750 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for healthcare occupations. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for this draw was 445 points, marking a 23-point increase from the previous healthcare occupations draw held on February 14, 2024, which had a minimum CRS score of 422 points and issued 3,500 ITAs.

The draw preceding this one took place on July 4, focusing on Trade Occupations. It saw 1,800 ITAs issued with a minimum CRS score of 436.

This year, Canada has conducted a variety of draws, including nine all-program draws, four targeted at French speakers, and one each targeting transport jobs, agriculture and agri-food occupations, and STEM occupations.

There have been two draws for healthcare occupations, three for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, one for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates, and one targeting trade occupations.

In the previous year, Canada held 19 all-program draws, five PNP draws, six draws for French speakers, three for healthcare occupations, two each for STEM occupations, skilled trades, transport jobs, and agriculture and agri-food occupations, and one draw for Federal Skilled Worker candidates.

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 110,266 ITAs in 2023, significantly increasing from 45,115 ITAs in 2022.

Canada set a record immigration target of 465,000 for 2023 and plans to surpass it with a target of 485,000 permanent residency invites in 2024. The latest draw saw the tie-breaking rule applied on May 7, 2024. Candidates who had the minimum CRS score and submitted their Express Entry profiles before this date and time received invitations.

This was the 23rd round of invitations under Express Entry in 2024 and the 301st overall.

Candidates have 60 days to submit their applications, which will be processed within the six-month standard. Employers are encouraged to secure a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or a nomination under provincial nomination programs (PNPs) to ensure long-term retention of employees.

An approved offer of employment is highly recommended as it increases the chances of securing an ITA in future rounds of invitations.
