Canada conducted a new Express Entry draw on August 14, issuing 3,200 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for this draw was 509 points, one point lower than the previous CEC draw on July 31, in which 5,000 ITAs were issued.
This draw followed a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on August 13, which issued 763 ITAs to candidates with a minimum CRS score of 690 points.
Throughout this year, Canada has seen a range of different draws under the Express Entry system.
Nine were all-program draws, while several targeted specific groups such as French speakers, healthcare professionals, and those in transport or agriculture. The diversity of these draws reflects the government’s efforts to address labor market needs.
Last year, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 110,266 ITAs, a significant increase from the 45,115 issued in 2022.
This year, Canada continues to pursue high immigration targets, with a record goal of 465,000 new permanent residents in 2023. The target is set to rise even further to 485,000 in 2024.
The tie-breaking rule, last applied on March 1, 2024, ensures that candidates with the minimum CRS score who submitted their profiles before that date received invitations. The August 14 draw marked the 31st round of invitations for 2024 and the 309th overall.
Candidates invited to apply now have a 60-day window to submit their applications. Employers must secure Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) or nominations under PNPs to retain employees long-term, as these measures can significantly improve a candidate’s chances of receiving an ITA in future draws.
