Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) unveiled several measures on January 18 to promote Francophone immigration outside Quebec.
The comprehensive list of measures, according to the announcement by Marc Miller, Canada’s immigration minister, comprises enhancement of the current programs, execution of the Action Plan for Official Languages, and support programs.
The new Francophone immigration policy aims to augment the growth of Francophone minority communities through better recruitment efforts and targeted promotion. The policy will enable the smooth integration of new French-speaking immigrants while addressing labor shortages.
The expansion of Welcoming Francophone Communities initiatives will add up to ten more communities for better integration of new immigrants. Presently, fourteen communities benefit from the funding to address the integration of Francophone immigration.
The following attributes strengthen the Action Plan for Official Languages:
Financial support to French-speaking teachers at primary and secondary levels
Improvement of the existing Francophone immigration framework
Consolidation of immigration pathways
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada launched a French-speaking category-based Express Entry draw to bolster the immigration of French-speaking candidates with in-demand skills.
The new Express Entry category mandates a minimum of a Canadian Language Benchmark of 7 for French language skills. The French-speaking category-based Express Entry selection underlines IRCC’s commitment to encourage Francophone immigration.
