Alberta recently conducted three draws under its Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), inviting 285 candidates for permanent residence. This series of draws utilized Alberta’s Expression of Interest system to select qualified candidates under different streams, including the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Dedicated Health Care Pathway.
On November 7, the province invited 187 candidates through the Alberta Opportunity Stream. Selected candidates needed a minimum score of 50 and specific qualifications.
To be eligible, applicants required a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of at least 5, a valid work permit, and over 12 months of relevant work experience. Additionally, candidates were required to have full-time employment offers in Alberta, specifically within designated skilled trades such as construction, electrical, and mechanical fields.
On November 4, Alberta held two draws through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, issuing a combined total of 98 invitations. One draw targeted non-Express Entry candidates, where 33 applicants with CLB 5 or higher were invited if they had Alberta job offers within healthcare occupations and met the province’s licensing requirements.
The other draw, aimed at Express Entry candidates, issued 65 invitations to individuals with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300 or higher. These applicants also needed Alberta employment offers in healthcare roles and an Express Entry profile expiring no earlier than April 4, 2025.
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program received 9,750 nominations in 2024, mirroring last year’s allocation. To date, Alberta has issued 9,039 of these nominations, approaching its quota for the year. In 2023, Alberta issued 10,029 nominations, utilizing a federal buffer that allowed it to exceed its allocation.
The Alberta Express Entry and Opportunity Stream draws underscore the province’s commitment to filling critical roles in skilled trades and healthcare. These draws reflect Alberta’s emphasis on attracting skilled professionals to meet its labor market needs, aligning with both provincial goals and federal immigration targets.
